Rising Tensions in PTI: A Closer Look at the Internal Dispute

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), one of the country’s major political parties, is currently facing internal turmoil that has caught public attention. A video recently leaked showing Kanwal Shauzab, the head of PTI’s women’s wing, openly criticizing Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI’s former chairman, Imran Khan. This incident has highlighted deeper divisions within the party’s ranks and raised questions about its future unity.

Kanwal Shauzab’s remarks in the video are sharp and direct. She accuses Aleema Khan of attempting to weaken the party from the inside by questioning the leadership of Barrister Gohar Khan, who was appointed by Imran Khan himself. Kanwal suggests that if Aleema Khan wants to be politically active, she should do so openly and respectfully rather than working against the party’s leadership in secret. This confrontation points to a struggle over control and respect within PTI’s organizational structure.

Kanwal also expressed frustration over what she perceives as ongoing disrespect towards the party chairman by certain individuals she described as having little importance. She warned that if she encounters Aleema Khan again, she will challenge her directly. This public airing of grievances is unusual for PTI, which has traditionally projected a united front.

Following the circulation of this video, Kanwal Shauzab clarified that the footage was taken out of context. She explained that it was recorded during a private meeting of the women’s wing and did not reflect the full conversation or the tone of the discussion. Despite this, the video has fueled speculation about serious rifts within PTI.

Adding to the party’s troubles, a separate leaked audio recording has emerged involving key legal figures associated with PTI. The audio allegedly features Qazi Anwar, the President of the Insaf Lawyers Forum, and Nauroz Khan, the Additional Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). In the recording, dissatisfaction is expressed by the Chief Minister over weak legal arguments presented by Nauroz Khan in a corruption case against PTI’s Member of the National Assembly, Atif Khan. The Chief Minister reportedly demanded Nauroz Khan’s resignation after reviewing the case documents, which indicated a compromise between the parties involved.

These incidents reveal cracks in PTI’s internal cohesion at a time when the party faces significant political challenges. The disputes over leadership roles and legal representation suggest deeper issues in party discipline and strategy.
