Government Announces to Introduce PayPal & Stripe in Pakistan

Pakistan’s financial landscape is undergoing a transformative shift, with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) spearheading the integration of global payment gateways such as PayPal and Stripe.

This initiative is part of a broader endeavor to develop a comprehensive financial infrastructure and policy framework within the country. Through this ambitious project, Pakistan’s burgeoning IT sector is poised to seamlessly connect with the international financial system, facilitating smoother cross-border transactions and trade.

The pivotal role played by Dr. Umar Saif, the Federal Caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Telecom, in showcasing Pakistan’s IT sector on a global stage at GITEX Dubai 2023 cannot be overstated.

Muhammad Zohaib Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), lauded Dr. Saif’s efforts in highlighting the sector’s potential.

Beyond payment processors, Dr. Saif’s vision encompasses the establishment of the Pakistan Startup Fund, aimed at attracting venture capitalists and nurturing a thriving startup ecosystem. This initiative will receive support from the National Technology Fund (IGNITE), which derives its funding from the telecom industry’s profits.

These strategic moves underscore Pakistan’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the tech industry.

Moreover, the creation of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has garnered recognition from the United Arab Emirates, marking a significant milestone. SIFC’s keen focus on the information technology (IT) sector highlights its pivotal role in Pakistan’s economic development.

Notably, Pakistan’s IT industry stands out as the sole significant industry with a trade surplus, capable of generating substantial foreign revenue, mitigating trade deficits, and creating high-paying job opportunities. The concerted efforts of MoITT and industry leaders like P@SHA underscore a shared dedication to harnessing the full potential of the IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sector, a development that promises to benefit both businesses and the nation’s economy at large.
