Sindh Chief Minister Unveils Provincial Budget for 2023-24

Karachi – In a momentous event at the Sindh Assembly, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah presented the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2023-24. Total Sindh Budget Rs2,244 billion. This eagerly anticipated announcement outlined the government’s plans for the upcoming year, focusing on various sectors and initiatives aimed at uplifting the province.

Salary Increase for Government Employees

Chief Minister Shah began his address by highlighting the government’s commitment to the welfare of its employees. In a bid to enhance their financial well-being, he announced a substantial salary increase of 35 percent for government employees between grades 1 and 16.

Additionally, employees between grades 17 and 22 would receive a 30 percent raise. Furthermore, the minimum wage has been set at Rs 35,500, ensuring a fair income for the working class.

Annual Expenditure Breakdown

Shah proceeded to shed light on the estimated expenditure for the fiscal year. The total budget allocation for Sindh was reported to be Rs 406.322 billion. Out of this, a significant portion of Rs 226 billion has been designated for the provincial Annual Development Plan (ADP).

Another Rs 20 billion has been allocated for the district ADP, enabling local communities to benefit from developmental initiatives. External assistance projects have been allotted Rs 147.822 billion, while Rs 12.5 billion has been earmarked for Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) projects.

Moreover, an estimated amount of Rs 79.019 billion has been set aside for 1652 new schemes, with ongoing projects expected to receive Rs 253.146 billion in funding.

Ensuring the comprehensive development of the province, the Sindh government has dedicated a substantial budget of Rs 380.5 billion for the provincial Annual Development Plan (ADP). Additionally, Rs 30 billion has been allocated for the district ADP, ensuring that local communities receive their fair share of developmental projects. The Federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) has been allotted Rs 22.412 billion.

Focus on Law and Order

Recognizing the importance of maintaining law and order, the government has prioritized this area in the budget. An allocation of Rs 160 billion has been proposed to enhance security measures across the province. This investment aims to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents.

Mitigating the Impact of Rains and Floods

Addressing the recurring issue of rains and floods, Chief Minister Shah emphasized the need for effective disaster management. To tackle this challenge head-on, the budget includes a dedicated allocation of Rs 160 billion for the victims affected by rain and floods. This provision aims to provide immediate relief and aid in rebuilding the affected areas.

Investing in Education

The government recognizes the crucial role education plays in the development of a prosperous society. To enhance educational opportunities and infrastructure, the Education Department has been granted a substantial budget of Rs 353 billion for development initiatives. Out of this amount, Rs 45.33 billion has been allocated for non-development education expenses, while a significant sum of Rs 308 billion will be utilized for development projects.

Additionally, the government plans to bolster the teaching faculty by hiring 1500 lecturers through the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC). Furthermore, the establishment of new colleges in various districts of the province will provide accessible education to a broader population.
