A Guide for Pakistan’s 2024 Election
As Pakistan gears up for the exciting Election Day in 2024, it’s a big deal, especially for young folks voting for the first time. The Pakistan Observer has put together this easy guide to help you, the voters, make sure you do it right.
Find Your Polling Station:
First things first, figure out where you’re supposed to vote. Just text your ID card number to 8300, and you’ll get the details. Then, make sure you know where your polling station is before the big day. Voting happens from 8 AM to 6 PM, so it’s smart to get there early. Don’t forget to bring your real ID card – no photocopies or other stuff.
Stay Secure at the Polling Station:
Once you’re at the polling station, leave your phone at home or keep it outside because it’s not allowed inside. Security is tight to make sure everyone feels safe while voting.
How Voting Works:
Now, here’s how the voting part goes down. Wait your turn patiently. The person in charge, the presiding officer, will check your name and voting number. They’ll give you two ballot papers, one for the national assembly (green) and one for the provincial assembly (white).
They’ll put a special mark on your finger or thumb to show you’ve voted. The officer will note down your voter number and ID card number and stamp and sign the ballot papers. Your thumbprint is also taken. Then, you go to a private spot to mark your choices on the ballot papers. Make sure you see the officer’s signature and stamp on the back or your vote might not count.
Ballot Papers and Voting Booth:
You’ll have two ballot papers – one green for the national assembly and one white for the provincial assembly. At a voting booth, carefully stamp the papers as advised by the Election Commission. Let the ink dry before folding them up.
