The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a significant extension of the deadline for submitting Sales Tax and Federal Excise Returns for the tax period of March 2025.
According to the new guidelines, businesses now have until April 25, 2025, to submit their returns, providing a much-needed breather for companies struggling to meet the original deadline.
This decision was made in exercise of the powers conferred under section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005.
The FBR issued instructions to various tax offices, including Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue, Large Taxpayers Offices, Medium Taxpayers Offices, Corporate Tax Offices, and Regional Tax Offices, on Friday.
The extension applies to two tax periods: February 2025, which was initially due on March 18, 2025, and later extended to April 13, 2025, and March 2025, which was due on April 18, 2025. However, the extension is subject to the condition that the due sales tax liability must have been deposited within the due date.
This extension is expected to provide relief to businesses, allowing them more time to comply with tax regulations and avoid any potential penalties. The FBR’s decision is seen as a positive move, acknowledging the challenges faced by businesses in meeting tax deadlines.
By granting this extension, the FBR aims to facilitate a smoother tax compliance process, promoting a more favorable business environment.
