Right now, even though there are 191 million mobile connections in Pakistan, most of the phones are brought from other countries. To make better use of the huge market in Pakistan, the country is planning to make its own phones that can be used in the country and also sold to other countries as ‘Made-in-Pakistan’ phones.
The Current Situation:
Pakistan has 33 companies that make phones, and together they can produce 25 million phones every year. But, the goal is to make these companies more advanced so they can compete with other countries in terms of quality and price.
Incentives to be Better Globally:
To help these companies become better, the government is giving them a 3% incentive for research and development (R&D). This means they will get extra money to improve the quality of their phones. The plan is to make sure that phones made in Pakistan are as good as any other phones in the world.
Making Important Parts Locally:
Another important part of the plan is to make important parts of the phones in Pakistan itself. This will reduce the cost of making phones. The government will also make sure that phones made in Pakistan are cheaper than the ones brought from other countries. With all these plans in action, experts believe that the industry of making phones in Pakistan can become a billion-dollar business in a few years.
